FAIRBANKS, Alaska –
Symone Hayden registered 23 kills to go with a .283 hitting percentage and 13 digs and Humboldt State rallied for a 3-1 victory against Colorado Christian in match five of the 2013 Flint Hills Resources Alaska Nanook Classic Saturday evening at the Patty Center.
In addition to Hayden's big night,
Kaitlyn Dunaway turned in 16 kills and a match-high 18 digs while
Ashley Owen put up 16 terminations and a .353 attack clip. The Lumberjacks (2-1), who are the tournament's runner up with wins over the Cougars (1-2) and the Nanooks (0-2 entering match 6), hit .271 as a team.
Other notable figures for HSU was a match-best 61 assists from
Erin Mitchell and 16 digs by
Kelci Renshaw.
On the opposite side of the net,
Taylor Sturms continued to amaze this weekend as she amassed a match-high 25 kills with a staggering .393 percentage on 61 attempts. She also tallied 11 digs and three blocks.
Jordan Kissman ran the floor well for 35 assists and
Summer Graeger had 14 digs, to lead the Cougs.
CCU hit .250 as a team and had nine total blocks. In the set one win, the Cougars hit .432 with 19 kills and only three errors but hit under .230 in each of the final three sets.
