MANSFIELD, Texas – Alaska will have two more opportunities to earn All-America status during Saturday's finals at the 2012 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships as sophomore Bente Heller (Hamburg, Germany/Albrecht Thzer Gymnasium) and the Nanooks' 400 freestyle relay each moved through to the consolation finals at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium.

Heller, who has garnered four All-America accolades thus far, placed 10th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.33 seconds and be seeded second for the consolation final in the final session of the championships this evening. She missed out on the eighth and final spot in the championship final by just over one-tenth of a second (.12).

The Hamburg, Germany, native, along with freshmen teammates Danielle Lyons (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan/St. Mary's), Margot Adams (Anchorage, Alaska/Frontier Charter) and Gabi Summers (Cheyenne, Wyo./Central) took 11th in the preliminary race of the 400 free relay with a new varsity-record mark of 3:28.14. That time was over one second faster than the team's previous best.

“It was a good swim for day four with the swimming we've done; the girls were a little bit tired,” head coach Scott Lemley said. “They're still able to get up and swim fast, so we dropped a second off our varsity record, and tonight, we'll try to come back and win the consolation final.”

Adams also competed with Heller in the 100 free and took 36th in 52.74 seconds, which was two-tenths of a second shy of her personal best.

The final session of the 2012 championships is set to begin at 6 p.m. (CT). Live results and live web streaming of the championships are available through NCAA.com.
