Flint Hills Signs On As Title Sponsor For Nanook Classic

FAIRBANKS, AK - Forrest Karr, Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation for the University of Alaska Fairbanks, announced today that Flint Hills Resources Alaska has signed on to be the title sponsor of the Nanook Classic Division II women's volleyball tournament, hosted by the Alaska Nanooks. The agreement covers the 2010 tournament.

"Flint Hills Resources Alaska is proud of the many relationships we have with our local UA campus,” said Jeff Cook, Flint Hills Resources Alaska Director of External Affairs. “Sponsorship of the Nanook Classic is just one way we support our Alaska Nanooks athletes and we're looking forward to an exciting weekend of intense volleyball action.”


"Flint Hills Resources has done a lot for our department,” said Karr. “Now they're doing even more and we can't thank them enough."


The Nanooks will host the 12th Annual Nanook Classic next weekend, September 3-4, at the UAF Patty Center. The tournament field includes the Bellarmine Knights, the Cal State East Bay Pioneers, the Charleston Golden Eagles and the host Alaska Nanooks.


Kicking off the weekend action is the tournament luncheon on Friday, September 3rd at 11:30 a.m. at the Salmon Bake. Cost for the luncheon, which will feature speeches from each team's head coach and a player representative, is $20 at the door.


First serve for the 2010 tournament is at 6 p.m. Friday night, when CSU East Bay faces Bellarmine, followed by the Nanooks match against Charleston at 8 p.m. Tournament action continues Saturday with four matches at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Alaska plays Bellarmine at 1 p.m. and CSU East Bay at 8 p.m.
