Spikers Add Colorado Prep Keri Knight

FAIRBANKS, AK – Alaska Nanooks head coach Phil Shoemaker announced that Keri Knight has signed a National Letter of Intent. A 5-foot-9 outside hitter from Arvada, Colorado, Knight will enter the University of Alaska Fairbanks in the fall as a freshman with four years of eligibility remaining.

Knight, who will graduate from Ralston Valley High School next month, played outside hitter for the Mustangs for four seasons. As a junior she was named the best offensive player and garnered Jefferson County All-Conference honors. Her season was highlighted by a career-best performance of 17 kills in 18 attempts against Arvada West High School.

She capped off her prep career this fall as team captain and a repeat all-league honoree before reaching high levels of success on her Juggernaut 18-2 club volleyball team: the same club that junior-to-be Simone Chavous (Aurora, CO) played for.

After five years in Juggernauts ranks, Knight saved the best for last helping her team to a sixth place finish at the Junior Volleyball Director's Association national tournament and eighth place at the Las Vegas and Colorado Crossroads tournaments.

“Keri is a really talented athlete - highly intelligent, motivated, and well trained - and she competes at a high level,” said Shoemaker. “She's going to make the jump to the college level without too much difficulty, and we think even with all that being said she still has a ton of room to grow and mature. We are very excited to have Keri join us, and we know great things are in store for her here at UAF.”

An academic all-conference selection as a junior and senior, Knight plans to pursue a degree in business at UAF.

She joins Karlee Skalla (Las Vegas, NV/Orange Coast College) and Jessica Eicher (Chugiak, AK/Chugiak HS) in the recruiting class of 2010.
