Rifle SIgns Delta Junction Prep Ryan Dunham-Bender

FAIRBANKS, AK – Alaska Nanooks rifle head coach Dan Jordan announced the signing of Ryan Dunham-Bender of Delta Junction. He will enter the University of Alaska Fairbanks in the fall with four years of NCAA eligibility remaining.

“Ryan has a strong family background in shooting,” said Jordan. “Both of his parents were successful collegiate shooters and I'm sure he is going to follow in their footsteps. Being from interior Alaska, he has competed against our team (in open matches) for the last couple of years and knows them well. I think his competitive nature will serve him and our team well.

A senior at Delta High School in Delta Junction, Dunham-Bender has shot competitively for five years with the Delta Rifles club team. The Rifles have garnered the National Scholastic Team Championship title at the National Rifle Association's National Championship four times since 2007.

On the range, Dunham-Bender has set many records at state matches throughout prep career. In 2007, he shot a 583 in the smallbore. In 2009, he fired a 584 in smallbore and an 1164 in air rifle. In 2010, he set the National Junior Record for air rifle (1165).

He will join the Nanooks in the fall of 2010 and plans to study engineering at UAF.

Dunham-Bender joins Michael Liuzza (New Orleans, LA/Jesuit High School) in Alaska Rifle's recruiting class of 2010.
