FAIRBANKS, AK - Three Alaska swimming student-athletes have been named to the Pacific College Swim Coaches Academic All-Conference swim team on Wednesday. The team is comprised of student-athletes who have maintained a 3.5 cumulative grade point averages and are either a junior or senior.
Senior Felina Rosadiuk (Business Administration) joined juniors Mariya Pavlovskaya (Korolev City, Russia) (Business Administration) and Kinsey Laine (Economics) on the Academic All-Conference team. Rosadiuk headlined the group with a 3.93 grade point average, followed by Laine with a 3.80 and Pavlovskaya, who earned a 3.60.
“Most people don't know what kind of rigorous training/class schedule these girls maintain.” said head coach Scott Lemley. “Being able to maintain above a 3.5 GPA when they're under extreme physical and emotional duress is an extraordinary feat and worthy of Academic All-Conference honors, and their dedication in both academics and athletics did not go unnoticed.”
Along with their academic accolades, Laine, Pavlovskaya and Rosadiuk were also named to the PCSC All-Conference team by finishing eighth place or better in one or more events at the PCSC Championships February 10-13.
Laine garnered All-Conference honors by finishing in fifth place in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:33.53, which was 36 seconds better than her career best time. Rosadiuk finished seventh place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.21 seconds, also good for an NCAA “B” cut. Pavlovskaya finished third in the 400-yard individual medley and fifth in the 200-yard individual medley for two All-Conference honors.
Rosadiuk and Pavlovskaya will return to the waters as the only two Nanooks to qualify for the NCAA Division-II Championships, which take place March 10-13 at Lock Haven University in Canton, Ohio. Rosadiuk will swim in the 50, 100 and 200-yard freestyle and Pavlovskaya will compete in the 200 and 400-yard IM as well as the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events.
