June 1, 2009

FAIRBANKS, AK – The University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of Athletics will host the 25th Annual IBEW Nanook Fund Golf Scramble on June 12 at the North Star Golf Club.

IBEW is in its sixth year as the title sponsor for the tournament, which is the major fundraising event for student-athlete scholarships. Proceeds from the tournament will directly benefit the Alaska Nanooks.

On the day of the tournament, breakfast and registration begins at 7 a.m., followed by a captain's meeting at 8 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. Each golfer will receive a catered lunch, and on-course beverage carts and hospitality tents will be available throughout the tournament.

All participants will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for a chance to win an Anchorage weekend getaway package, which includes two round-trip tickets to Anchorage, two nights stay in an area hotel, and two passes to an Alaska Nanooks event while in Anchorage.

Every entrant will receive a tournament gift, goodie bag and an opportunity to win team prizes.  Other prizes will be awarded for specialty holes throughout the course, such as closest to the pin and longest drive contests for men and women.

The tournament's hole-in-one prizes include a new vehicle from Auto Service Company, $10,000 in cash, and a Hawaiian vacation package for two.

Teams of four can register to participate in the tournament for $600 or individuals can sign up for $160. Individuals and partial teams will be paired by the tournament staff to create complete teams of four. Hole sponsorships are available for $100 per hole.

Entry forms and further information are available online (Nanook Scramble Registration Form) or by calling tournament director Ruth Olsen at 474-6814.  The entry deadline is Thursday, June 11.
