Nanook Shooters, Alums Named To ISSF World Championship Teams

FAIRBANKS, AK – Four Alaska Nanook rifle team members and four of the program's alumni have been named to the 2010 ISSF World Shooting Championship teams as announced by USA Shooting.

Members were selected through a variety of qualifying matches, including the USA Shooting National Championships and Junior Olympics. They will be traveling to Munich, Germany from 29 July to 11 August to compete against 2,500 plus competitors. Shooters will participate in a variety of events of both Olympic and non-Olympic disciplines.

The Junior national team, which rosters just eight shooters, features four with Alaska connections as sophomores-to-be Dustin Chesebro and Scott Franz will be joined by their incoming teammates and freshmen-to-be Michael Liuzza and Ryan Dunham-Bender in Munich.

The group will participate in relays for three-position, prone and air rifle during the event, which is held once every four years and provides the first opportunity for Olympic quota slots for the 2012 Olympic games.

Olympic gold medalist and Nanook Hall of Famer Matt Emmons headlines the National team, which also includes Alaska rifle alums and All-Americans Matt Rawlings, Joe Hein and Jamie Beyerle.

Live action from the 2010 ISSF World Shooting Championships can be followed online from 29 July to 11 August at ISSF's website.
