Maynard, Jenkins Nammed to All-Conference Team; Jenkins Named POW

FAIRBANKS, AK – Senior guard Emmanuel Jenkins (Tacoma, WA) and junior forward Nashorn Maynard (Saint Paul's, Saint Kitts) received honorable mention to the All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference team for the 2009-10 men's basketball season.  The league also announced on Monday that Jenkins earned GNAC Co-Player of the Week for the week ending March 7.

Jenkins finished third in the GNAC in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per contest, while ranking fifth in the GNAC in assists with 112.  He also ranks fifth in the conference with 2.3 thee-point field goals made per game and seventh in three-point baskets (58).

He earned Player of the Week honors for the final week of the regular season when he scored 47 points, dished out nine assists and had seven rebounds as the Nanooks picked up back-to-back victories over #9 Seattle Pacific and Northwest Nazarene.  Jenkins shot 47% (16-of-34) from the field, while also shooting 93% (13-of-14) from the free throw line.

He scored 29 points in a 113-109 overtime victory against #9 Seattle Pacific on Thursday.  The Nanooks rallied from an 18-point deficit to force overtime, and eventually pull off the upset.  On Saturday, he scored the go-ahead bucket with 15 seconds left in a 77-75 win over Northwest Nazarene.

For his career Jenkins has scored 874 points, good for 24th on the teams all-time career-scoring list.  He also has dished out 221 assists and hit 97 three-pointers in his two years at Alaska.

Maynard finished the year second in the GNAC in rebounding, pulling down 8.8 a game, while also checking in 11th in scoring averaging 13.7 points per game.  He ranks third in blocked shots a game (1.2), fourth in steals a game (1.8) and 10th in free throw shooting (80%).

He scored a career-high 30 points in a February 13 loss to Western Washington, going 11-of-19 from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line.  He also grabbed 12 rebounds, 11 of them off the offensive glass.  The 11 offensive rebounds was just one off the GNAC record for offensive rebounds in a game.

In his two years with the Nanooks Maynard has scored 607 points and pulled down 354 rebounds.  He is 12 points shy of 50th place on the all-time career scoring list and 39 rebounds shy of cracking the top-25 all-time career rebounding list.

Alaska finished the season with a 9-16 record and 4-12 mark in the GNAC.  The Blue and Gold finished the season winning three of their last four conference games to finish ninth in the GNAC.
